As Labor Day draws closer, I've found myself thinking back over these past few months.
Not just our wonderful trip to Norway.
Not just the garden that's finally overflowing with tomatoes.
Not even the weeks of Kansas heat that had all of us—horses included—looking for every patch of shade we could find.
I've been thinking about the little moments.
Walking through the garden before work.
Watching the ducks splash happily in the pond.
Fresh basil drying on the racks.
The little hummingbird who finally discovered my feeder.
The horses grazing peacefully as the evening light begins to fade.
A cool shower after a long day outside.
None of those moments would make headlines. Most lasted only a few minutes. Yet somehow, they're the memories that have stayed with me.
Looking Back at the Summer
When we began this Summer of Simple Rituals, I thought we were setting aside time to notice small moments.
Looking back now, I think something deeper was happening.
Each week invited us to notice a different part of ordinary life.
We noticed ourselves.
We noticed our daily routines.
We noticed the homes that quietly care for us.
We noticed the garden, the birds, the changing sky, and the rhythm of nature.
We noticed the people who share our everyday lives.
We even discovered difficult days still hold moments worth remembering.
At the time, those felt like separate conversations. Now I realize they were all pointing toward the same truth.
Ordinary Life Was Never Ordinary
It's easy to spend our lives waiting.
Waiting until work slows down.
Waiting until the weather improves.
Waiting until the house is cleaner.
Waiting until we're less busy.
Waiting until life finally feels the way we think it should.
But ordinary life doesn't pause while we wait. It keeps unfolding around us.
Morning coffee is poured.
The garden continues to grow.
Friends call.
Children laugh.
Dogs nap in sunny spots.
The hummingbird finds the feeder.
The horses wander toward the fence at feeding time.
Life keeps offering moments. Whether we notice them or not.
The Gift Was Never More Time
If someone had asked me back in June what I wanted more of this summer, I probably would have said time.
Time to finish projects.
Time to travel.
Time to work in the garden.
Time to rest.
But looking back, I don't think more time was what I really needed.
I needed more attention.
Not attention for bigger things.
Attention for the little things I was already living.
Because paying attention has a remarkable way of changing ordinary experiences. Not by making them perfect.
But by making them visible.
The Seasons Will Keep Changing
Soon the tomatoes will disappear.
The basil drying racks will be empty.
The hummingbirds will begin their long journey south.
The evenings will grow cooler.
The garden will quietly prepare for its winter rest.
Then autumn will become winter.
Winter will become spring.
The seasons—and life, really—will keep changing. That's part of their beauty. Every season brings something to notice.
A different rhythm.
A different invitation.
A different kind of beauty.
Carrying the Practice Forward
As summer comes to a close, I don't find myself wishing I could hold onto every warm evening. Instead, I hope I hold onto something much more valuable.
The habit of noticing.
The willingness to pause.
The reminder that peace doesn't arrive only when life becomes easy.
It often arrives while we're standing in the middle of ordinary Tuesday mornings.
I've come to believe meaningful moments aren't something we create.
They're something we recognize.
They've been there all along.
Waiting patiently.
Your Invitation
As a new season begins, I'd love to invite you to carry one simple question with you: What beautiful thing is already happening that I almost missed today?
Maybe it's the smell of coffee drifting through the kitchen.
Maybe it's your favorite sweater on the first cool morning.
Maybe it's laughter from another room.
Maybe it's the sound of rain on the roof.
Maybe it's someone you love sitting quietly beside you.
Whatever it is... Pause long enough to notice it.
You may discover the moments you've been searching for were never waiting somewhere in the future. They've been quietly waiting for your attention all along.
The Moments Continue
When I first began writing this series, I thought it would be about summer. Now I realize it has never really been about a season.
It's been about learning to see.
To slow down just enough to recognize joy, comfort, gratitude, and peace are often woven into the ordinary fabric of everyday life.
The seasons will change.
Life will continue to surprise us.
Some days will be easier than others.
But the invitation remains exactly the same.
Pause.
Notice.
Breathe.
Be present.
Because the moments are already waiting…my goal has simply been to help you notice them.
A Gentle Companion for Everyday Moments
Whether it's washing your hands after working in the garden, enjoying a favorite scent at the end of a long day, or sharing a handmade gift with someone you love, I hope our products continue to become small companions to the moments that matter most.
The Summer of Simple Rituals may be coming to a close, but our journey isn't. In the months ahead, we'll continue sharing stories from the farm, the garden, and everyday life as the seasons unfold. Because there will always be another moment waiting to be noticed.
